“I was inspired and motivated to become involved with Access Accountancy because throughout my career, I’ve seen how much talent exists across all backgrounds — but not everyone gets the opportunity to realise it.
“Access Accountancy’s mission aligns with my belief that access to opportunity should be based on potential, not postcode. I’ve worked across sectors, including time with both ACCA and ICAEW, and I know how powerful this kind of initiative can be when we work together.
“I was the first in my family to attend university and found entering the professional world both exciting and unfamiliar. I know what it feels like to build a career without the benefit of an existing network. Over the years, I’ve worked with teams and organisations that have taken real steps to remove barriers and broaden access and I’ve seen the impact that creates.
“In terms of challenges we need to overcome to help those from low socio-economic backgrounds, we need to make the profession more visible, accessible, and transparent. That means clearer entry routes, earlier engagement with schools and colleges, and recruitment processes that reflect potential, not just polish. There’s also a cultural piece —making sure that once someone joins the profession, they feel they truly belong and can thrive.
“As Chair of Access Accountancy, I’m committed to helping deliver real, measurable progress. I bring experience in leading transformation across complex organisations and regulated sectors. My focus is on helping the initiative scale up its impact, build stronger employer engagement, and use data to drive action. I want to ensure that Access Accountancy continues to lead the way in improving access to the profession.”
For employers looking to improve their social mobility footprint, my advice would be:
- Broaden your talent pipeline: rethink traditional entry routes and remove unnecessary barriers in your recruitment processes.
- Start early: build partnerships with schools and community groups to raise awareness and aspirations.
- Focus on inclusion: once people join, make sure they’re supported, developed, and given the opportunity to thrive.
