“What motivated me to become involved with Access Accountancy was the opportunity to contribute to the vision of promoting diversity across the accountancy profession. I’m looking forward to bringing a public sector perspective to my work with the charity.
“I would like to see more targeted outreach programmes across the industry to ensure we reach those who need it the most. Once people have joined the industry, we need to ensure that progression opportunities are equal, and available to everyone.
“My top three tips for employers looking to improve and support social mobility would be to:
- set up work experience and internships targeted at those from low socio-economic backgrounds;
- foster an effective staff network to support those who need it within an organisation;
- and set up reverse mentoring initiatives, which not only benefit junior staff, but also senior leadership as well.”
