“As a partner in audit and assurance at Deloitte, I’m passionate about increasing diversity and inclusion in the accountancy profession. The ability to link with others in the profession to work together to accelerate change in relation to social mobility was too good to miss.
Over the past few years, I have seen the breadth of talent that has come into my own firm from different backgrounds, including the first person who left school directly to join Deloitte becoming partner, so I want to help accelerate the work being done to widen access into our profession.
The biggest change I would like to see in accountancy is the support given to individuals once they choose a career in our field. This could be financial as they enter the workplace, soft skills to help them be successful, or continued career development to help them fulfil their full potential.
By opening more eyes to a career in accountancy, we will help to build the workforce of the future – harnessing all the diverse skills and experiences they will bring at this time of rapid change.
For employers looking to improve and support social mobility, it is important to get there and meet the people you want to attract. In-person contact is the best way to inspire individuals. Sharing stories of those who have gone before them is also key, so individuals can see people like them achieving success.”
